Charlie Patino has joined Swansea City on a season-long loan from Arsenal.

After spending the 2022/23 season on loan at Blackpool, the talented midfielder will get another year of first-team football in the Championship. Despite failing to save the Tangerines from relegation, he gave a good account of himself with three goals and four assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.

In fact, Patino was considered a long-term replacement for Granit Xhaka at Arsenal at one point last season. While the Swiss international has since moved on to Bayer Leverkusen, the additions of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz this summer add to an already crowded midfield, which doesn’t assist the 19-year-old’s cause.

As a result of approaching a critical stage in his career and needing to play frequently this season, football.london claimed earlier this summer that a permanent exit was on the cards for the teenager, who could attract a significant transfer fee for the Gunners due to his comparatively low salary.

However, it has been confirmed that Patino will be joining the Swans on loan, which may signal that he still has a long-term future at the Emirates Stadium, and those prospects will only grow with a solid spell at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Patino has completed his move in time to be in contention to make his debut for Michael Duff’s side on Saturday afternoon when they travel to the Hawthorns to take on West Brom in their second Championship game of the season.

The midfielder becomes the sixth member of Arsenal’s loan army, joining fellow youngsters Catalin Cirjan (Rapid Bucharest), Mika Biereth (Motherwell), Mauro Bandeira (Colchester United), Hubert Graczyk (Slough Town), and Billy Vigar (Eastbourne Borough) who have all spent the season away from the Emirates.

With the summer transfer window remaining open for another three weeks, there is still time for the Gunners to sanction more loan deals, and an announcement regarding Marquinhos’ move to Ligue 1 outfit Nantes is expected soon, as the Brazilian is also in need of game time this season, according to football.london.
