Harry Kane arrives in Germany to finalize his transfer to Bayern Munich.

Tottenham Hotspur’s record goalscorer Harry Kane has arrived in Germany to finalize his move to Bayern Munich in a deal worth up to £120 million.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou stated on Friday afternoon that Kane’s transfer to the Bundesliga champions was “imminent” after the clubs reached an agreement on Wednesday night.

It put the ball in Kane’s court, and he chose on Thursday to leave his boyhood club for Bayern, who would pay an initial £100 million, with add-ons potentially raising the total sum to £120 million, according to the PA news agency.

On Friday morning, it was reported that Tottenham had rejected Kane permission to travel to Germany, but this was quickly debunked by Tottenham, and he flew off for Munich on a private plane from London Stansted airport.

Kane arrived in his soon-to-be new hometown on Friday night to finish his physical before a historic move.

“Fair to say I don’t have a blow-by-blow account, but my understanding is it has progressed to the point where it looks like it will happen,” Postecoglou said before of Spurs’ trip to Brentford on Sunday.

“From that standpoint, at least we have some clarity, and we can move forward without Harry.”

From my perspective it is just about understanding where we are at and the information I have at the moment is the deal is imminent but, like with all these things, you leave yourself some leeway.

“However, we’re moving forward and training today in preparation for Brentford without Harry.”

“It is best if Harry speaks for himself on the decision, but there is no doubt that he is one of the greats of this football club, and that will never change.”

“I am new in the building, but it is fairly obvious that Harry Kane will always be one of this football club’s greats.”

Kane is in a race against time to formally sign before Bayern’s DFL-Super Cup match against RB Leipzig on Saturday night.

However, with the clash taking place at Bayern’s Allianz Arena home, England captain Kane could well be unveiled to supporters before kick-off, even if the paperwork is not completed in time.

This is not the first summer in which Kane’s future has dominated headlines, following Manchester City’s unsuccessful 2021 pursuit.

Kane sat out the first match of the season, which happened to be against City, although Pep Guardiola’s side never came close to agreeing on a fee with Tottenham.

With Kane in the final year of his Spurs contract, speculation about his future has always been more pressing.

Bayern reportedly rejected down bids in June and July, but made their intentions apparent via the media, with honorary president Uli Hoeness and president Herbert Hainer openly discussing Kane’s desire to join the Bundesliga winners.

Last Friday, a third bid was submitted, and Spurs spent the whole weekend deliberating before chairman Daniel Levy rejected it on Monday.

Harry Kane is 47 goals off equalling Alan Shearer’s Premier League record tally of 260

With reports that Kane, who scored four goals in a friendly triumph over Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday, had loved working with Postecoglou, optimism grew that he would be able to spend the season at his boyhood team.

But Bayern’s last bid was sufficient to strike a deal, and after careful consideration, Kane decided it was time to conclude his 19-year spell at Spurs.

It means Kane’s pursuit of Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal-scoring record will be put on hold, with the Tottenham forward still 47 goals off equalling Shearer’s tally of 260.

He will leave N17 as the club’s leading marksman after he surpassed Jimmy Greaves’ 266-goal record in February with the winner against Manchester City.

Kane will also get the chance to fulfil his career-long ambition of winning trophies at Bayern, while remaining in the Champions League.

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has long admired Kane, but when asked about him ahead of Saturday’s match against Liepzig, he remained tight-lipped.

“We are working with full pressure on this deal,” Tuchel said at a press conference.

“I realize there are a lot of ifs and whens.” All options are on the table. The first is to have him as a player, which he is not at the present.

“This is significant. We are attempting to remove England’s captain from the Premier League.”
