Bayern Munich’rejects Manchester United proposal for Benjamin Pavard.

Bayern Munich is said to have turned down Manchester United’s initial bid for right-back Benjamin Pavard.
The Red Devils are thought to have chosen the France international as a suitable replacement for Harry Maguire, for whom Man United reportedly accepted a £30 million approach from West Ham United.

It is uncertain whether Maguire will agree to a move to the London Stadium, but Erik ten Hag’s squad is preparing for the possibility that their ex-captain will go.

Even if Maguire stays, the Red Devils’ defensive options have been weakened by the departures of Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe, and Eric Bailly is also slated to leave in the coming window.

According to Bild journalist Christian Falk, Man United made first contact with Bayern about a trade for the ex-Stuttgart and Lille player, and an opening bid was filed.

However, Falk adds that Bayern rejected Man United’s first offer, while talks between the two teams are ongoing in the goal of reaching an agreement.

Pavard is in the final year of his contract with the Bundesliga winners and appears to be unwilling to sign an extension as he seeks a new challenge elsewhere.

Bayern are thus willing to allow Pavard leave for the appropriate price this summer before he could leave on a free transfer in 2024, and according to a different update from Kaveh Solhekol, the Bavarians want €30m (£25.9m) to sanction a deal.

Bayern Munich and Manchester United are thought to be far off in their values of the France international, but Pavard is pushing hard in his attempts to arrange a move to Old Trafford.

Despite the departures of Jones and Tuanzebe, as well as the likely departure of Bailly, Solhekol indicates that Pavard can only join Ten Hag’s team if Maguire leaves, which is far from certain at this point.

Pavard has amassed 12 goals and 12 assists from 163 games in a Bayern shirt since joining in 2019, prior to which he became a World Cup winner with France in the 2018 tournament.

Pavard had a successful individual season in the 2022-23 season, scoring seven goals and assisting one in 43 games while playing as a right-back and center-back for Thomas Tuchel’s team.

Pavard started as right-back against RB Leipzig in the DFL Super Cup on Saturday, but he was replaced at halftime by Noussair Mazraoui as Bayern lost 3-0.

Barcelona were also connected with a move for Pavard as they sought a new right-back, but the La Liga champions have now settled on Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo.

Man United are also reported to be keeping an eye on Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo, who has allegedly been watched by Red Devils scouts.
