Jurrien Timber of Arsenal believes his injury is not serious.
Jurrien Timber, an Arsenal defender, has hinted that he did not incur a significant injury in Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League win over Nottingham Forest.
In the absence of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Timber took up the same position on the left side of the backline as he did in the Community Shield victory over Manchester City.
However, the Dutchman’s Premier League debut was a flop, as he received a yellow card before being substituted a few minutes later after collapsing off the ball. Jurrien Timber of Arsenal believes his injury is not serious.
Timber was injured in a challenge with Forest forward Brennan Johnson just before halftime, but he was evaluated by the club’s medical team and given the all-clear to play on.
Mikel Arteta’s choice to keep Timber on the field backfired spectacularly, as the 22-year-old collapsed to the turf with an apparent calf/knee ailment and awkwardly walked off to be replaced by Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Arteta was left in the dark about the severity of Timber’s injury after the game, despite the fact that the defender cut a very unconcerned figure on social media.
Timber captioned a montage of photographs from Saturday’s game “A win to begin” and added a pair of emojis reading “back soon” to the post.
Nonetheless, it is unknown whether Timber will be available for next Monday’s trip to Crystal Palace, as Arteta deals with a variety of injury worries in the early stages of the season.
Despite appearing briefly in the recent Game4Ukraine, Zinchenko is yet to appear in an Arsenal shirt this season, having failed to heal fully from his latest calf injury.
The left-back is not expected to be out for long, but Tomiyasu may be called upon to serve in as a makeshift left-back if neither he nor Timber receives clearance from the medical team before the trip to Palace.
Striker Gabriel Jesus is also recovering from knee surgery, which will keep him out for a few weeks, while Mohamed Elneny is still recovering from a similar treatment performed in January.
Folarin Balogun (ankle), Reiss Nelson (toe), and Albert Sambi Lokonga (muscle) are also in the treatment room, but both could leave the club before the end of the summer window.
A new appearance Arsenal raced into a two-goal lead against Forest thanks to first-half goals from Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka, but they were nearly punished for failing to add to their tally in the second half.
Taiwo Awoniyi finished off a brilliant Forest counter-attack in the 82nd minute, but Arsenal held on to their slim lead to begin the season with a win for the second year in a row.
