Mancini has resigned as Italy’s head coach.

The Italian football federation (FIGC) announced on Sunday that Roberto Mancini had resigned as head coach of the national team.

“Taking into account the important and close commitments for the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers… the FIGC will announce the name of the new national coach in the next few days,” the organization said in a statement.

Roberto Mancini has resigned as Italy’s national team coach.

After five years in charge, the 58-year-old handed in his resignation letter on Saturday evening.

Mancini led the Azzurri to the 2020 European Championships trophy, their first since the 2006 World Cup, and finished third in the 2021 and 2023 Nations League finals.

The Italian Football Federation stated that his replacement will be announced in the coming days.

He arrived in May 2018, following an abysmal season in which they failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup under Gian Piero Ventura, the first time they had missed out on football’s biggest tournament since 1958.

From October 2018 to October 2021, the former Manchester City manager led the club on a record-breaking 37-game unbeaten streak.

The undoubted pinnacle of his rule was a 2-1 win against England in the final of the 2020 European Championships, but failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup after a loss to Macedonia in the play-offs ushered in darker days.
