Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed which player will take the number 10 shirt vacated by Harry Kane’s departure.

Kane’s move to Bayern Munich was finalized on Saturday, with the German club paying €100 million for the forward.

On Saturday evening, he made his debut as a second-half substitute against RB Leipzig, but Bayern fell 3-0 in the German Super Cup final.

Meanwhile, his previous team meet Brentford tonight in Ange Postecoglou’s first competitive game as manager.

And Spurs, via their official website, have confirmed who will be entrusted with the number.

The number 10 shirt will be worn by new player James Maddison, who was given the iconic shirt number as part of a slew of squad number alterations.

Guglielmo Vicario, another new acquisition, is donning the number 13 shirt ahead of his expected Premier League debut between the sticks.

Despite the fact that he has not participated in pre-season, club captain Hugo Lloris retains the number one shirt.

Other new additions Ashley Phillips, Alejo Veliz, and Micky van de Ven have been assigned numbers 35, 36, and 37. Manor Solomon carries the number 27, while returning loanees Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso have the numbers 11 and 18, respectively.

As well as following in Kane’s footsteps, Maddison will also follow on from the likes of Jimmy Greaves, Glenn Hoddle and Teddy Sheringham in wearing the number 10.

And he’ll be hoping to fulfill Kane’s own prophecy, which he made for himself back in 2015.

Kane said to The Telegraph in 2015 why he changed his number to 10: “I want to become a club legend.”

“[Robbie] Keane and Sheringham were my idols when I was growing up, and they wore 10.” So wearing it had always been a fantasy of mine.

“I just wanted 10 when I found out it was available.” I like this club, and wearing number 10 for Tottenham is a dream come true for me. I couldn’t help myself.”
