Gabriel Jesus posted a picture of himself giving a thumbs up to the camera after working out in the gym on his Instagram story on Saturday, with the message “done.”

Jesus is now recovering from a recent knee procedure, and no timetable for his return to the pitch for Arsenal has been provided.

However, Mikel Arteta provided a favourable update on the situation earlier this week.

“It’s a bit early (for Jesus) still,” Arteta said of the recovery timetable, before adding, “He’s doing really well since his operation.” Hopefully, he’ll be able to start doing things next week.”

Given that Jesus can already work out in the gym, Arteta was obviously referring to a return to some type of individual training the next week.

It’s far too early to consider considering Jesus in expected lineups against Crystal Palace, and Arsenal will be cautious given this is Jesus’ second problem with the same knee this year.

But, in some respects, the fact that it was the same knee was actually good news.

It’s very uncommon to require several clean-up procedures following the initial surgery, and it’s usually a far easier recovery than incurring a fresh injury.

By comparison to an injury to the other knee or a serious re-injury, a clean-up procedure is much less daunting.

Arsenal have Eddie Nketiah, Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard, and Folarin Balogun (depending on his fitness/transfer status) to fill in during Jesus’ absence, and they’ve already overcome Manchester City and Nottingham Forest since his operation.

There’s no doubt a fully fit and firing Jesus is Arsenal’s first-choice option up front, but it’s worth waiting a little longer to ensure he’ll be available consistently upon his return.
