Liverpool makes an unexpected move for Wataru Endo.

Liverpool is in desperate need of a defensive midfielder after losing out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea. According to The Top Flight, PSV’s Ibrahim Sangare and Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat have both been linked to Liverpool for the midfield position. Time is running out for bringing in a defensive midfielder. Now, the Reds appear to be preparing to secure a completely unexpected signing from the Bundesliga.

Liverpool have made contact with Stuttgart over a surprise move for Japan captain Wataru Endo.

The 30-year-old, who can play as a centre-back and defensive midfielder, has surfaced as a surprise target for the Reds, who are looking to strengthen both areas.

Liverpool are seeking a deal for the midfielder, according to This Is Anfield, after missing out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia in recent days.

Endo joined Stuttgart from Sint-Truiden in 2019 and has made over 100 appearances for the club.

He also has 50 Japan caps and was a member of his country’s World Cup squad in Qatar in 2022.

Because the player’s contract expires next summer, Liverpool and sports director Jorge Schmadtke are aiming to make a low-cost signing.

According to Transfermarkt, the player could have a £1.45 million release clause, although more trustworthy sources indicate a €24.3 million release clause. Liverpool makes an unexpected move for Wataru Endo.

Endo’s versatility, leadership qualities – captain for club and country – and professional demeanour will undoubtedly bring similarities to James Milner, another midfielder who departed Liverpool this summer.
