Manchester City won the UEFA Super Cup for the first time on Wednesday, defeating Sevilla 5-4 in a penalty shootout to add another trophy to manager Pep Guardiola’s collection.

The Super Cup is an annual match between the Champions League (City) and Europa League (Sevilla) champions from the previous season.
Sevilla took the lead in the 25th minute thanks to Youssef En-Nesyri’s stunning header in Athens’ suffocating heat and humidity.
In the 63rd minute, City equalized through winger Cole Palmer’s header.
It was City’s 15th trophy in Guardiola’s tenure, which began in 2016, and it made up for the Community Shield loss to Arsenal in a penalty shootout 10 days ago.
Erling Haaland, who struggled to make an impact during the regular season, scored in the shootout alongside colleagues Julian Alvarez, Mateo Kovacic, Jack Grealish, and Kyle Walker.
Sevilla’s first four penalties were successful, with Lucas Ocampos, Rafa Mir, Ivan Rakitic, and Gonzalo Montiel scoring, but Nemanja Gudelj missed the crucial spot attempt at 5-4, allowing Pep Guardiola’s side to claim the trophy on penalties.
