Arsenal could join the fight for Benjamin Pavard late in the transfer window to replace Jurrien Timber, with Manchester United the frontrunners.

Arsenal could make a late move for Benjamin Pavard, according to Fabrizio Romano. With a year left on his contract, the 27-year-old Manchester United target is eager to depart Bayern Munich, as Mikel Arteta may see him as a replacement for Jurrien Timber. Jurrien Timber might upset Arsenal’s intentions in the transfer window at a time when Mikel Arteta appeared to have a full team. The Dutchman suffered an ACL injury against Nottingham Forest and will be out for the majority of the season.

His absence may force Arteta to look for a replacement, with Ivan Fresneda returning on their radar. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is also interested in Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo and Aymeric Laporte.

With the duo ruled out at this point, Arsenal is looking into other options, including Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters and now Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard. The latter’s inclusion will be based on his game experience and what he offers to the group. Walker-Peters possesses similar qualities, but the Frenchman can also play in the centre.

Manchester United are the current frontrunners for Pavard, who is also interested in moving. Bayern Munich wants €40 million from his sale with a year left on his contract, which may appear to be a high asking price.

Arsenal have made no proposals for the 27-year-old Manchester United target, despite Fabrizio Romano’s assertion that the Gunners may join the race. Given Timber’s injury, it remains a possibility, with Pavard’s expertise likely to aid Arteta in his quest.

Manchester United’s pursuit was increasing until the Harry Maguire story broke. They had planned to sell the England international to bankroll a move for the 27-year-old Frenchman, but with the 30-year-old sticking put, there are some reservations.
