Dutchman returns to Premier League looking to add to his 222 appearances and 51 clean sheets

Luton Town have signed experienced goalkeeper Tim Krul from Norwich City.

The 35-year-old has made 222 Premier League appearances for Newcastle United and Norwich City, keeping 51 clean sheets and making 691 saves.

14 of those stops were made in a single game, with Krul setting a Premier League record in Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in November 2013. He was selected Player of the Month in the competition.

Krul, a Netherlands international, came on as a late substitute in a 2014 FIFA World Cup quarter-final and emerged as the hero, saving two penalty shots in a penalty shoot-out.

He’ll wear No. 23 at Luton, the same number he wore in the World Cup, where the Netherlands finished third.

“The Luton Town story speaks for itself,” Krul said on the club’s official website. The last nine years have been a wonderful journey, and I’m honoured to have been a part of it. The club has had an eventful year. “I spoke with Carlton Morris, and he raved about what’s going on at this club.”

“Tim’s a leader and a top keeper who is still very ambitious and hungry,” said Luton Town boss Rob Edwards. He is excited to play.

“It’s great to have someone of his calibre in the group with that ambition and drive, and it’ll add a lot of competition to the keeper department, which is exactly what we wanted.”

Krul becomes The Hatters’ tenth signing of the summer and might make his debut against Chelsea on Friday, August 25.
