After teammate Alphonso Davies sparked a dangerous counter attack down the left flank, England captain Harry Kane rifled a shot from within the penalty area into the lowest left-hand corner. Kane, 30, had an assist earlier in the game in just four minutes, excellently setting up Leroy Sane’s opener.

It’s been less than a week since Tottenham’s star finalised his move to Bayern, which might be valued more than £100 million. Kane made his debut for the club last Saturday, when they were defeated 3-0 in the German Super Cup by rivals RB Leipzig.

Spurs and England’s all-time leading scorer came on as a second-half replacement and struggled to find his rhythm, but things were different in Bremen. Kane made an immediate impact by setting up Sane for his fourth-minute goal, delivering a lovely through pass from his own half to find the quick German winger, who scored with ease.

Then, in the 74th minute, just before being replaced, Kane did what he does best, finishing a straightforward chance to seal the three points for Bayern, who added two more goals through Sane and Kane’s replacement, Mathys Tel. Manager Thomas Tuchel was overjoyed with his new No.9, who he expects will lead the Bavarians to a 12th consecutive league title and a Champions League victory in May.

“I don’t think it will be the first time in his career (he has been under pressure),” Tuchel said ahead of the Werder Bremen match. “As a result, he will learn to channel his stress into performance while remaining calm.”

“It’s not a matter of life and death.” It’s a game, a competitive game, and he’s shown how he plays it for almost ten years, so I’m not worried about Harry. If we lose, the Harry Kane impact will remain. It’s the way he works in training and in the locker room, his professionalism, how he goes about things, and how humble and eager he is in training.

“The way he acts after such a game, after a loss, he is the first on the training pitch, he works with the reserve players, he is the one walking ahead who is inspiring others. That is what makes that transfer fee (worthwhile), not only his goal-scoring record but all the other things as well.”
