Nottingham Forest are preparing a massive £30 million bid for Arsenal’s flop.
Nottingham Forest are stepping up their pursuit of Arsenal flop Nuno Taveres, and are willing to spend up to £30 million for the versatile defender.
The Portugal Under-21 international joined the Gunners for just over £7 million from Benfica two years ago and showed early promise, moving into the team in place of Kieran Tierney.
A disastrous FA Cup performance against Nottingham Forest in which he was hauled off before half-time proved to be the beginning of the end for the 23-year-old under Mikel Arteta, who was seen hammering the player in the dressing room during a game at West Ham in Amazon’s All or Nothing documentary. Tavares then spent last season on loan at West Ham, where he was released after another promising start, but despite his previous troubles, improving Forest are willing to take a big risk, according to the Mirror.
Weder Bremen are also reported to be showing interest but Tavares is said to prefer a move to a Premier League club.
Meanwhile, Arteta is keen to cut his roster before the transfer window ends, but he may make further signings in light of Jurrien Timber’s injury, which could sideline him for the remainder of the season.
‘I am more concerned with the resources that we have within the team to continue achieving what we want to achieve,’ Arteta said of his transfer plans for the rest of the window.
‘It’s true that [Jurrien] gave us quite different options in terms of what we could do on both sides, but these things happen, and we have to be prepared for them.
‘This is an opportunity for everyone. We’re going to need everyone, and everyone will be vital.
‘The squad’s numbers, particularly in those positions, are more limited now, so everyone must be prepared.’
