Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison is set to have an MRI on the injury he suffered in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Manchester United.
Ange Postecoglou won his debut game as Tottenham manager against Manchester United, as Pape Sarr’s strike and Lisandro Martinez’s own goal got Spurs off to a good start in the Premier League.

In addition to being Postecoglou’s first home game, Maddison made his competitive debut at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, playing the whole 90 minutes.

However, the England international raised concerns after the game by entering the mixed zone on crutches, increasing suspicions of an injury-related absence.

Maddison allegedly told reporters that it was merely a precautionary step, but The Athletic reports that the 26-year-old has been sent for a scan, which will take place sometime on Tuesday.

According to the source, Maddison has a potential foot injury, but the Lilywhites are still examining the damage while waiting to hear the extent of the former Leicester City man’s condition.

Maddison has already established himself as a crucial player for Spurs since his arrival earlier this summer, registering two assists in last weekend’s 2-2 draw against Brentford.

During Man United’s visit, the Englishman had another busy afternoon, creating two chances as well as executing two successful dribbles and five accurate long balls from six attempts.

Tottenham have a long list of injuries to cope with in the early stages of the season, including Maddison’s fellow midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, who is currently recovering from a catastrophic knee injury.

The Uruguayan suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture against Maddison’s former club Leicester in February, and he will most likely be out for several months.

Ryan Sessegnon and Bryan Gil have both had surgery this summer, with the former, who has been troubled by several fitness difficulties during his time with Tottenham, having a hamstring ailment repaired.

Meanwhile, fellow left winger Gil is recovering from a groin operation, and neither he nor Sessegnon are expected to return before October at the earliest.

Fringe keeper Alfie Whiteman is also out with an ankle injury, while Cristian Romero recovered from a head injury in time to start with Micky van de Ven against Manchester United.

Tottenham are next in action away to Bournemouth on Saturday lunchtime, three days before they begin their quest for EFL Cup glory against London rivals Fulham.
