In his home Premier League debut, the Dutch defender was also treated to a rendition of his new song by the Spurs crowd.
Spurs supporters have rehashed an old classic from the days of Rafa Van der Vaart, singing Micky van de Ven to the tune of Give It Up (na na na na na na na na na na na, Micky van de Ven, Van de Ven, Micky van de Ven).
The Spurs’ summer signing described playing in the home stadium and hearing his name sung by tens of thousands of fans as a childhood dream.
“Yeah, I heard, it’s incredible,” Micky van de Ven told SpursPLAY. It’s fantastic. When you think about it, it’s astonishing.
“Last weekend was an away game, and they sang my name occasionally, but hearing it in the home stadium is a child’s dream.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
I, for one, am thrilled to have this chant back. It was always one of my favourites during the Harry Redknapp days and the fact it fits Micky’s name perfectly is amazing. I’m sure Van der Vaart will be more than happy to pass the Give Me Up torch over to Van de Ven.
