Armando Broja has returned to training with his Chelsea teammates at Cobham ahead of the game against Luton Town on Friday.

The 21-year-old striker has been out since December after suffering a catastrophic knee injury in a friendly against Aston Villa. Broja underwent surgery because scan results revealed that he had ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

But, only a few days before Chelsea hosts Luton Town at Stamford Bridge in their third game of the 2023/24 Premier League season, the Albanian is back on the field with the rest of his colleagues. Broja is unlikely to start against the newly-promoted Hatters after missing so much time due to the problem, but even if he is selected on the bench, it would be a significant boost for Mauricio Pochettino and his backroom staff.

Broja captioned an Instagram photo of himself training, “In order to look good in front of thousands, you have to outwork thousands in front of nobody.” He was photographed at Cobham with new signings Lesley Ugochukwu, Andrey Santos, and Moises Caicedo.

Head coach Pochettino was asked about his transfer ambitions for offensive players during a press conference on Friday at Chelsea’s training base. The Argentine stated that it was something that the club had continually discussed, but he was also wary of impeding the development of the returning Broja.

“Of course, we’re working,” Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said of any new arrivals at Stamford Bridge. “We are considering all of the market options available to us.” We can see the opportunity. But I believe we are keeping one or two eyes on Armando Broja at the same time.

“We cannot forget him. We cannot stop him. We really believe in him – we know how important he can be for Chelsea. We need to be careful.

“I think the situation with Christoph [Nkunku] is a big disappointment, because he should be a really important player for us and help Nico Jackson score goals.” That’s football, and we have to deal with it. Sometimes we can’t go after a player we already have. We must be patient, adapt our team, and achieve excellent results while Armando recovers.”

Broja returned to Chelsea last season after spending the previous season on loan at Southampton. The Cobham graduate appeared 18 times for Chelsea in all competitions, scoring one goal and assisting one.
