Chelsea defender Lewis Hall has joined Newcastle on a season-long loan.

Newcastle reportedly offered £28 million ($36 million, 33 million euros) to their Premier League rivals for the 18-year-old academy graduate.

Hall signed a new six-year contract with Chelsea earlier this month, but Newcastle’s interest has prompted the club to part ways with a defender who made 11 first-team appearances last season, including nine in the Premier League.

“Boyhood Newcastle supporter” “I’m very proud,” Hall told the Magpies’ website. My family and I are Newcastle fans, and growing up, it was pounded into my brother and myself that we were Newcastle. It’s a big club, and I’m excited to get started.

“Last year, I gained a lot of experience in some big games, and I was really proud of how I progressed as a player and as a person.” I’m honoured and really proud to be here at Newcastle, the team I’ve supported since I was a youngster.”

“It’s very exciting,” he continued. When you look back on last season and the way the squad competed – not just the results, but the performances – it was incredible.

“There are so many talented players, and we now have the Champions League, so there are so many different competitions that I know the team will want to do well in and hopefully win a trophy or two.”
