One Arsenal player, according to Jamie Carragher, has to improve his shooting and tackle

One Arsenal player, according to Jamie Carragher, has to improve his shooting and tackle.

Declan Rice still has to work on his shooting, according to Sky Sports commentator Jamie Carragher.

Carragher was evaluating the 24-year-old’s skill set prior to last night’s encounter between Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

It’s difficult to claim that Declan Rice’s game is without flaws.

Mikel Arteta brought in the £105 million player to bolster his midfield options.

Despite the exorbitant price, he’s already proving that he was worth it.

Rice’s performance last night astounded Carragher, although he has questioned his shooting ability.

Rice has never been particularly prolific in front of goal, despite his outstanding ball-striking skill.

The midfielder’s ability to fulfill multiple roles on the field so well that he isn’t always needed in attack is practically a curse.

Arsenal fans have already taken to the 24-year-old, whose three competitive performances for the club have been outstanding.

Even when the Gunners were reduced to ten men yesterday, he maintained some kind of control.

Carragher says Rice needs to work on his shooting

“I think the one big criticism that everyone will have of Declan Rice, which I think has been a little bit unfair in his career up until now, would be how many goals he scored,” Carragher remarked of Arsenal’s number 41.

“When you talk about a player for £105 million, you think I want everything.”

“When it comes to getting into scoring positions, that [his finishing] has to vastly improve.”

“So, yes, it was a valid criticism before, but now that he’s playing for a better team, I think his numbers have to go up.”

If Rice continues to put in performances like last night, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta won’t mind if he doesn’t shoot as much as Carragher would like.

He’s still new to Arteta’s system, and while being a fantastic player, he’ll need time to adjust to his new teammates.

Rice has taken over the job previously held by Granit Xhaka, who enjoyed his finest scoring season of his career last year.

It only seems a matter of time before he scores his first goal for Arsenal.
