Right-back joins on a season-long loan and becomes Forest’s fourth summer acquisition

Nottingham Forest have acquired Argentina international defender Gonzalo Montiel on a season-long loan from Sevilla, with a permanent move possible next summer.

The 26-year-old becomes Forest’s fourth summer signing and will wear No. 29.

“I’m really happy to have joined this club,” Montiel said, according to the club’s official website.

Montiel, who was born in Gonzalez Catan, began his youth career at River Plate before making his senior debut in 2016.

The right-back joined Sevilla in August 2021, appearing in 72 games across all competitions. He was part of the squad that won the UEFA Europa League last season, scoring the winning penalty, and came on as a substitute in the UEFA Super Cup against Manchester City earlier this month.

Montiel has been capped 23 times for Argentina since his international debut in 2019. He was a member of the squads that won the Copa America in 2021 and the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

Last December, he achieved the first leg of an incredible penalty double by scoring the game-winning penalty kick against France in the World Cup final.

 

Forest’s next game will be against Manchester United on Saturday.
