Tottenham could sign a loan player from Chelsea in the next two weeks, according to reports.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Tottenham Hotspur could sign Romelu Lukaku on loan before the transfer season closes.

Although some trustworthy sources, such as Alasdair Gold, have refuted rumours that Tottenham could turn to Lukaku as a replacement for Harry Kane, Italian media outlets continue to hype the possibility of Spurs swooping for the Belgian.

CalcioMercato reported over the weekend that Spurs had made contact with the 30-year-old’s entourage, who Chelsea is said to value at €45 million (£38.3 million).

Potential loan move for Lukaku at Tottenham

TMW is the latest outlet to report on Tottenham’s interest in Lukaku, claiming that the former Inter Milan star is one of three names on the Lilywhites’ shortlist, along with Fularin Balogun and Jonathan David.

It is explained that, with agreements for Arsenal and Lille stars proving difficult, Spurs may switch their focus to the Chelsea star in the ‘final few days’ of the transfer market.

However, it has been stated that Tottenham do not want to sign Lukaku and would rather invest a large transfer money in a younger player.

The publication claims that the door could be ‘opened shortly’ for Spurs to recruit the centre-forward on a loan deal with a purchase option.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Lukaku is far from the quality required to replace Kane, signing the Belgian on loan would carry no risk. However, I believe Tottenham is only interested in the Chelsea player as an emergency alternative if a deal for one of their top three or four targets fails to materialize.
