Hugo Lloris rejects a move to Lazio.

Hugo Lloris has turned down a move to Lazio, according to Fabrice Hawkins through Gianluca Di Marzio, due to worries over his position in the squad. The French veteran did not want to be second fiddle at the Rome club and would look for new opportunities throughout this window. Hugo Lloris rejects a move to Lazio.

Hugo Lloris is no longer an automatic starter for Tottenham this season, with Guglielmo Vicario taking his place. The Italian goalie has played well in the first two games, including a standout performance against Manchester United last weekend.

Lloris was already deemed surplus to requirements midway through last season after a string of blunders cost Tottenham precious points. The French veteran was injured at the end of the season and was not anticipated to start as their No. 1 this season.

When early Saudi interest arose, the Spurs opened their doors to an escape. Lloris does not appear to be interested in moving to the Middle East just yet, or perhaps the offers were insufficient. In any case, speculation of a move to the Saudi Pro League rapidly died away as some European clubs concentrated on the seasoned star.

Lloris believes he can play at the top levels and wants his next club to make him their starting keeper. It’s possible that’s why he turned down a transfer to Lazio after the Italian giants pressed. Summer signing Ivan Provdel seemed to be a lock for the No.1 place, and Maurizio Sarri desired Lloris as his No.2.

The terms were not acceptable to Lloris, who has since declined a move to Lazio. The French international will most likely wait until the end of the transfer window for a better offer from another team. There were talks of a move to Real Madrid to replace Thibaut Courtois.

Real Madrid have since signed Kepa Arrizabala from Chelsea on loan. Hence, Lloris may have to look for another market opportunity. As the window nears its end, more clubs, even some from the Premier League, could approach Tottenham for Lloris.

If there’s no time left, Spurs might even consider keeping the experienced star in the side to provide backup to Vicario. Hence, Lloris’ future remains uncertain, with the possibility of leaving and staying very much in the balance.
