Tottenham Hotspur appears as mystery club to make £64M bid for a player.

Tottenham Hotspur have now emerged as the mystery club to have allegedly made a move for Porto wide man Pepe.

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Porto star Pepe, but an initial approach has been rebuffed.

That is according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola who claim that Tottenham have made their opening offer for Pepe.

It’s stated that Tottenham have offered a package worth €60million (£51.5million) with €45million (£38.5million) in fixed money and €15million (£13million) in potential add-ons.

Porto have said no, sticking to their demands of €75million (£64million) for Pepe, and won’t accept a penny less.

That’s the value of Pepe’s release clause in his Porto contract and Tottenham have been told to pay up or forget about a deal

According to the article, Arsenal are also interested in signing Pepe this summer, with Edu being an admirer of his fellow Brazilian.

This comes after Goal claimed on Wednesday that Porto is in talks to trade Pepe to an unknown English club.

The team was not identified, but it now appears that Tottenham will make the transfer, rather than London rivals Arsenal.

Who is Tottenham Hotspur target Pepe?

Pepe was born in Foz do Iguaçu and began his career with the Foz do Iguaçu Futebol Clube, loaning out to Coritiba as a teenager.

Gremio subsequently rushed to sign Pepe on a permanent basis in 2016, which is when the 26-year-old really came into his own.

Pepe became a sought man after scoring 32 goals in 144 appearances, and Porto were able to move him across to Portugal in 2021.

Pepe joined Porto as a winger and has played on both flanks, but he has also been converted to a right back.

Pepe’s versatility as a winger, attacking midfielder, and even right back will entice possible suitors such as Mikel Arteta and Ange Postecoglou.

Both Arteta and Postecoglou value fluidity and have advocated for the deployment of full backs in the infield to aid in build-up play.

Pepe might be considered as a player who can fill that role while also providing depth further up the field.

It’s unlikely that Arsenal or Tottenham will fulfill the £64 million demands, and it’s even more astonishing to hear that Tottenham has allegedly offered a £51.5 million deal.

We don’t see Pepe joining Tottenham before the transfer deadline, but he’s a name to keep an eye on in the future.
