Following Arsenal’s disastrous start against Fulham in Saturday’s London derby, Martin Keown took a shot at Aaron Ramsdale.

The Gunners were looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season when Bukayo Saka’s wayward backpass gave Andreas Pereira with a shooting opportunity from distance.

The former Manchester United midfielder took Ramsdale off guard and clipped the ball beyond the goalkeeper’s furiously backpedalling near post.

It’s not the first time Arsenal’s No.1 has been caught off guard, with Sporting Lisbon’s Pedro Goncalves exploiting Ramsdale’s positioning in last season’s Europa League clash. Martin Keown criticizes Aaron Ramsdale following Arsenal’s start against Fulham.

‘This was something we saw often at the conclusion of last season when Arsenal didn’t take advantage of their lead in the title battle,’ Keown observed after another poor start by Mikel Arteta’s side in a home encounter at the Emirates Stadium.

David Raya, signed from Brentford earlier this month, is waiting to make his Arsenal debut

‘Ramsdale is so far off his line, I’m not sure why he does this so often, and Pereira blasts into the near post.’

Ramsdale is under increasing scrutiny and pressure following Arteta’s decision to sanction the acquisition of former Brentford star David Raya, who joined the club on an initial 12-month loan last week.

Raya’s arrival was deemed necessary by Arteta, but former Manchester United star Gary Neville believes having two keepers of equivalent calibre may cause Arsenal problems this season.

‘In my opinion, you need a clear number one and then a clear number two,’ he told Sky Sports.

‘At Manchester United, we had clear number one and number two keepers, and then we had two equal-ish keepers in other scenarios.

‘The difficulty is that every time a keeper makes a mistake – as they surely do – you wind yourself asking whether he will play the next guy the next week.’
