No more excuses! Raheem Sterling is resolved not to let his career 'fade away' after a promising start to the season with Chelsea.

Raheem Sterling has vowed there will be no more excuses following a bright start with Chelsea, with the England man keen to recapture his best form.

  • Winger scored brace against Luton
  • Forward endured tough 2022-23 season
  • Sterling eyeing England recall

WHAT HAPPENED? Following his arrival from Manchester City, the attacker had a rough first season at Stamford Bridge, failing to ignite under Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and Frank Lampard.

But, under Mauricio Pochettino, the winger appears revitalized this season, and after scoring twice in a 3-0 win over Luton Town, he is ready to press on for bigger and better things.

WHAT THEY SAID: “I had a conversation with the gaffer earlier last week,” Sterling told the club’s official website. “I know exactly what he needs from me. Mindset-wise, I came with excuses, but that is finished.

“I want to be obsessed with football and nothing else again.” Outstanding performances, goals, and assists. In my career, a lot has happened. I’ve been faced with a new and difficult challenge.

“Your head can become foggy, [but] my passion for football is too strong, and I am too young at 28 to let my career fade away.” I need to stick to the goals I’ve set for myself and keep going. I have a strong drive and hunger to accomplish so.”

THE BIG PICTURE: Sterling will be hoping that his return to form will help him secure a recall to the England squad after ruling himself out of their Euro 2024 qualifiers during the off-season.

Only captain Harry Kane has more current international caps than the winger’s 82, and the 28-year-old will be hoping to return to the Three Lions side for a sixth consecutive major tournament.

WHAT’S NEXT? Sterling will get the chance to add to his tally for the season so far when Chelsea face lower league opposition in the second round of the Carabao Cup, facing off with AFC Wimbledon.
