Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto and vice president Ryan Friedkin arrived in London on Friday to negotiate a deal for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.
Chelsea had insisted on selling the Belgian, but Roma are unlikely to be able to afford a buy option or the 30-year-old’s weekly wage of £325,000.

Lukaku has declined to join Juventus, Inter Milan, or Saudi Arabian teams, leaving Chelsea with few options.
If Lukaku joins Roma, he will reunite with Jose Mourinho, under whom he previously played at Manchester United. .
They also spent time together at Chelsea.
Pinto and Friedkin were at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea’s game against Luton Town when they spoke with Behdad Eghbali.
Lukaku is not in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans at Chelsea and has not been assigned a squad number for this season.
Inter Milan and Juventus have shown interest in the 30-year-old, but a deal has yet to materialize.
Lukaku played last season on loan at Inter Milan, where he scored 14 goals in 37 games after previously being a regular player.
Chelsea have confirmed that midfielder Andrey Santos has joined Nottingham Forest on loan.
Forest are also close to negotiating a deal with Chelsea for winger Callum Hudson-Odoi and have had a £14 million bid approved by Corinthians for Brazilian center-back Murillo, 21.
