Chelsea have refused to pay any of Romelu Lukaku’s salary if he goes on loan away from Stamford Bridge.
AS Roma are closing in on a loan deal for Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku but the Blues will refuse to pay any of the striker’s wages in order to make it happen.
The Belgian star has been the talk of the summer after returning to Chelsea after a loan spell at Inter Milan last season. The Champions League finalists hoped to bring the 30-year-old back, but he flirted with Juventus, putting a homecoming to the San Siro on hold. Juve fans then protested the former Inter star’s entrance, putting Lukaku’s future in doubt.
That is, until Roma stepped on the scene, and the Giallorossi are currently nearing an agreement with Chelsea on a loan transfer of £8m-£9m.
According to Matt Law, negotiations are on over Lukaku’s wages, which Chelsea will not contribute to, thus the player will have to accept a pay cut of almost £7 million per year.

Chelsea’s return of Lukaku in 2021 has been a fiasco because he appears to be a player who constantly causes them problems. The London club is correct not to pay any of the striker’s salary since, if the transaction is a loan move, it is the least Roma could do given the Blues’ desire for a permanent transfer.
Lukaku is expected to replace Andrea Belotti in Jose Mourinho’s lineup and will partner Tammy Abraham up front in the Italian city this season. The Rome-based club will be hoping to qualify for the Champions League this season, and the Belgian striker’s goals will help them do so.
