Trevoh Chalobah’s future at Chelsea appears to be in the balance in the next days, despite interest from Bayern Munich. The 24-year-old had been linked with a move to Inter Milan, but that deal fell through, and he has since been left out of Mauricio Pochettino’s matchday squad, owing to a hamstring injury.

Pochettino’s recruitment of Axel Disasi also demonstrated that he did not see him as a direct substitute for the injured Wesley Fofana. Talks with Bayern Munich and their new manager, Thomas Tuchel, then began, with a loan move appearing to be the most likely outcome.

Earlier this summer, Chalobah discussed his future when Italy was being considered as his most likely destination, with the defender evaluating whether or not it was a suitable location to live. “Obviously, you don’t know what the future holds,” he said in an interview with Sky Sports in Milan. “I played in France when I was on loan there, in England, and you never know.” It is something for a gamer to experience as they play in a different location. You have no idea what the future holds.

“Italy is a nice country, and the Italian league is also very good.” You have no idea what the future holds. I’m still a Chelsea player and have my sights set on the club, but you never know what the future brings. I like it here in Italy; the weather is lovely, the people are friendly, the food is delicious, and I’m having a fantastic time.”

However, his long-term future may lay in Germany, with The Telegraph stating that a permanent transfer to Bayern Munich is currently being explored, with talks also claimed to be proceeding well.

Tuchel has been obliged to find replacements for Benjamin Pavard, who is set to leave Allianz Arena for Inter, with Chalobah appearing to be the choice, though interest in AC Milan player Pierre Kalulu is also high.

In late July, Chelsea placed a £45million price tag on Chalobah, although it is unknown whether Bayern are willing to meet that or if further talks need to take place. However, with Bayern set to obtain £27.5million from the sale of Pavard, they are more than capable of striking a deal with Chelsea where the west Londoners receive a suitable fee.
