A man has been arrested following an alleged headbutt on Roy Keane at the Emirates during Arsenal’s match against Manchester United.

The Metropolitan Police in London have detained a 42-year-old man on suspicion of assault after former Ireland and Manchester United star Roy Keane was allegedly head-butted following Arsenal’s match versus Manchester United.
Earlier, police announced an inquiry was underway after the Sky Sports analyst was allegedly assaulted during Sunday’s match at the Emirates Stadium versus Manchester United.

According to reports in the UK, Keane was attacked by a supporter as he made his way down to the pitch to complete his Sky analysis responsibilities before Arsenal scored the game-winning goals in injury time, with the incident taking place near the top of the West Stand.

There are reports that the fan gave Keane a head butt before being stopped from approaching the former Manchester United and Ireland captain, with colleague Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards helping to diffuse the situation.

On Sunday night, footage showed Richards appearing to grapple with a man at the Emirates Stadium surfaced on social media, with Keane in close proximity.

“The Metropolitan Police have confirmed they are investigating an assault alleged to have taken place on Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday,” a Sky statement said.

“The aftermath of the incident involving Keane and fellow pundit Micah Richards at Arsenal’s game against Manchester United was captured on social media.”

“Both Keane and Richards have given statements to the Metropolitan Police.”

The Met Police issued a statement indicating they were investigating an alleged assault at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, 3 September, during an Arsenal vs. Manchester United match.

“Enquiries are ongoing. Any witnesses or those with information are asked to call 101 ref CAD 6961/3 Sept.”

Keane has yet to make any comment on the incident, with footage on social media capturing the moment.
