Angel Di Maria is likely to retire for Argentina after the 2024 Copa America.

WHAT HAPPENED? According to ESPN Argentina, the winger may retire from international football after next year’s continental competition. During the Qatar World Cup, he was in fantastic form and was a key player of the group that won the third worldwide title, breaking a 36-year drought. He scored in the final versus France and was a key player on the field for the entire 120 minutes.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Di Maria also scored in the 2021 Copa America final victory over Brazil and again in the 2022 Finalissima victory over Italy, cementing his legend in Albiceleste colours. Cesar Luis Menotti, the manager who guided Argentina to their first World Cup win in 1978, believes El FIdeo should be ranked among Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona, and Mario Kempes.

Di Maria has 132 caps to date and has scored 29 goals since making his debut against Paraguay in a World Cup qualifier in 2008.
