The 50-year-old has been connected with positions at Burnley and Leicester, but has remained patient in his search for a new job.

And he has now turned down an offer from his own country’s women’s side, which is looking to replace Hege Riise.

‘Of course, I have spoken to the association about the role as national coach,’ Solskjaer told Norwegian news site NRK. ‘They have inquired. But I’m not prepared for that just yet.’

Solskjaer led United to a second-place finish in 2020-21, but they were eliminated from the Champions League after the group stages that year after a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir.

The squad recovered to reach the Europa League final, but lost on penalties against Villarreal of Spain in Gdansk.

Despite barely missing out on a European title, United looked bright at the end of their 2020-21 season, as they added Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Raphael Varane to their team that summer.

After those signings, it appeared that they could be serious title challengers, but their results deteriorated precipitously, ultimately costing Solskjaer his job.

He was unable to win any trophies, unlike his predecessor Jose Mourinho, and was unable to restore the club’s golden days under Sir Alex Ferguson.
