Novak Djokovic, Serbia’s famed tennis player, has spoken up about his bond with his young daughter.
The 36-year-old won a remarkable victory in the US Open 2023 final, upsetting world number three Russia’s Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.
Djokovic fell into tears as he hugged his six-year-old daughter shortly after winning.
Those images were unusual in the tennis world, since the Belgrade native stayed calm while enjoying his many victories over the years.
Djokovic stated that seeing her daughter sitting in the spectators gave him more incentive to win the title.

“I was watching her the entire match,” he admitted. “She was in the front row, facing me when I was on the bench, and we laughed at each other several times.” She demonstrated the fist pump.
“She is only six years old, and she looked at me and gave me this energy exactly when I needed this playfulness and joy and to relax a little bit in high stress – particularly in the second set.”
“I went to her first because she is my daughter, but she also helped me the most in this match.” I adore her, and having her, my wife, my kid [Stefan], and my parents around me made me feel loved and supported. This is also their prize.”
Djokovic won his fourth US Open victory and 24th Grand Slam in his remarkable career, extending his lead at the top over Spain’s Rafael Nadal.
With the triumph, the current world number one finished 2023 on a high note, having won three of the four Grand Slams.
His only defeat in a big event came in the final of Wimbledon against Spain’s young tennis star Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set thriller with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
