Stoppage time goals by Richarlison and Kulusevski claim dramatic win for spurs

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium witnessed a breathless conclusion as Tottenham scored twice in stoppage time to defeat Sheffield United and maintain their unblemished start to the Premier League this season. Gustavo Hamer thought his second-half strike for the Blades would be enough to give them their first win of the season, but Spurs came back to win.

Richarlison shined in Tottenham’s late, late performance, scoring in the 98th minute and assisting in the 100th to upset Sheffield United.
After Gustavo Hamer scored in the 73rd minute, the Blades were minutes away from a stunning victory and their first of the Premier League season.
But it was Richarlison’s turn to shine, the Brazil striker coming off the bench and scoring Spurs’ first Premier League goal at home – in the eighth minute of stoppage time – only days after bravely admitting he would seek “psychological” therapy.

And his afternoon was not over, with Richarlison then playing in Dejan Kulusevski, who scored a dramatic winner in a frantic finale that also saw Oli McBurnie sent off for a second yellow.
It goes down as the latest winning comeback in Premier League history.
Spurs remain unbeaten, and move onto 13 points, while a shell-shocked Sheffield United are still without a win after five league games.

TALKING POINT

Richarlison delivers in difficult week

“I’m going back to England to work on my mind with the help of a psychological .” Coming back stronger is what it’s all about. It’s all about getting back into shape at Tottenham. This week, I’m going to sit down and talk to them. I need to get a nice run in, get my match rhythm, and arrive in excellent shape.”
Richarlison said this in midweek while on international duty with Brazil, and on Saturday, he finally broke his Premier League home duck for Spurs – and in some style.
Football never ceases to surprise, and Richarlison is now getting the recognition he deserves for his candour.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Richarlison (Tottenham): Difficult to choose when Sheffield United were so close to a shock win, with Jack Robinson impressing in defence for the Blades, but with a goal and an assist you have to give it to super-sub Richarlison. Some contribution.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

36’ – SHOULD THAT BE A PEN? A break in play means a few replays of that Madison-Basham incident. A tad theatrical from Maddison perhaps, but Basham did stick out a leg and didn’t appear to get the ball… A better angle shows Basham catch Maddison’s foot, but maybe that isn’t a clear and obvious error from referee Peter Bankes? Put it in the “You’ve Seen Them Given” category.
45+4’ – SAVE! Just before half-time, from a corner McBurnie’s header is saved by Vicario! A yard either side and that’s going in…
73’ – GOAL!! SPURS 0-1 SHEFF UTD (HAMER) WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT From nowhere, the Blades are ahead, and it’s a beauty from Hamer, who picks up the loose ball from a corner and strikes a half-volley in off the far post.
The home fans are stunned into silence.
90+8’ – GOAL!! SPURS 1-1 SHEFF UTD (RICHARLISON) A first Premier League goal at home for Richarlison! And talk about timing… Not only does the striker pop up with a header in the eighth minute of stoppage time, but it comes after his brave admission in midweek while away on international duty with Brazil. Well done that man.
90+10’ – GOAL!! SPURS 2-1 SHEFF UTD (KULUSEVSKI) 100 minutes on the clock… and Spurs go ahead! What. A. Turnaround. This time Richarlison picks out Kulusevski, who takes a couple of touches before rifling an attempt beyond the helpless Foderingham.
