Manchester United has received a double boost ahead of their UEFA Champions League opener against Bayern Munich.

The Reds held an open training session at Carrington on Tuesday afternoon before flying to Bavaria.

Carrington provided a positive update following the news that Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be out for an extended period of time, as Raphael Varane and Mason Mount joined the group in front of the cameras.

Although there has been no indication that they will be included in the squad for Wednesday’s 20:00 BST kick-off, with Burnley to follow on Saturday in the Premier League, the pair’s comeback comes at a welcome time for Erik ten Hag’s team.

Manchester United has received a double boost ahead of their UEFA Champions League opener against Bayern Munich.

Ten Hag had stated that he expected Varane and Mount to return shortly, and as former winners of the competition with their previous clubs, they could bring a wealth of knowledge and skill to the team.

Varane scored our first goal of the season, the game-winning goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford, but he was forced off at half-time of our following home game against Nottingham Forest.

Mount, however, has had limited opportunity to demonstrate what he would add to the team, having made only two competitive appearances for the club since signing from Chelsea in the summer.

United will almost certainly be missing a number of players for the game, our first in Group A, but it will be intriguing to see if Varane and/or Mount can make the journey.

Another good from Tuesday’s session was Kobbie Mainoo’s participation in an individual light running exercise at Carrington.

The 18-year-old is on the mend after injuring himself during a 2-0 loss to Real Madrid in the United States in July.

Before the flight to Germany, the full travel squad will be unveiled on the United App and ManUtd.com.
