Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier is reportedly appealing to former manager Jose Mourinho and could join Roma in January.

Dier has fallen out of favour at the north London club and has not appeared in a single game this season under Ange Postecoglou.

The England center-back has been a substitute three times but has yet to play and is understood to be evaluating his options.

According to Tuttosport, Dier is Mourinho’s preferred choice as the former Tottenham Hotspur manager looks to bolster his back line in January.

Roma are said to be constrained by Financial Fair Play, although upgrading the defence is thought to be a priority for Mourinho following the capital club’s sluggish start to the season.

Dier joined Spurs from Sporting CP in 2014 and has appeared in 361 games for the north London club, scoring 13 goals.

The 29-year-old has also been capped 49 times for England, scoring three goals.

He has played as a defensive midfielder as well as a center-back for Tottenham, but he has fallen out of favour since Postecoglou prefers players with pace in his sides.

His contract expires at the end of the season, so a January move would be unlikely to be costly for Roma or any other prospective bidders.
