Casemiro has been ruled out of Manchester United’s match against Sheffield United.

The Reds head to Bramall Lane for an 8 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, but Erik ten Hag will have to select a midfield without Casemiro, who suffered an injury while on international duty with Brazil.

Casemiro has been ruled out of Manchester United's match against Sheffield United.

Casemiro, 31, will remain in Brazil until next week, when he is due to return to Carrington, to heal from a “minor issue.” The club’s PR has confirmed this.

“Casemiro was absent [from training], having remained in Brazil, on the club’s advice, to recover as quickly as possible from a minor issue picked up while playing for his country,” United stated on Thursday afternoon through ManUtd.com.

“He will be unavailable for Saturday’s game with the Blades but is expected back at Carrington early next week to resume training, although he is suspended for the UEFA Champions League encounter with FC Copenhagen at Old Trafford, after being sent off in the defeat to Galatasaray.” Casemiro has been ruled out of Manchester United’s match against Sheffield United.

The only concern I have with this is that Casemiro was injured against Venezuela last Friday and then played 90 minutes against Uruguay on Tuesday night. We assumed that would result in an injury boost for United, but that was clearly not the case.

On another issue, Casemiro has struggled this season, and he was taken off at halftime against Brentford before United forced a late comeback win. It would be foolish to argue that United are stronger without the Brazil captain – we are not – but I believe we should be able to take on Sheffield United without a defensive midfielder this weekend.

Hopefully, Sofyan Amrabat is fit because we may have issues trying to protect the defensive otherwise and Ten Hag doesn’t need anymore injuries.
