Tottenham‘s Postecoglou is off to a Premier League record start.

After Tottenham Hotspur defeated Fulham 2-0 on Monday night, Ange Postecoglou set a new record for the most points scored by a manager in their first nine Premier League matches (23) with their team.

The Spurs manager broke the previous record of 22 points shared by Mike Walker and Guus Hiddink in their first nine games in charge of Norwich City (1992-93 season) and Chelsea (2008-09 season), respectively.

Spurs won comfortably against Fulham thanks to goals from Son Heung-Min and James Maddison at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, putting Postecoglou’s squad two points clear at the top of the Premier League standings.

When asked if he was proud of his record-breaking achievement, Postecoglou replied, “Look, it’s credit to everyone.” It’s definitely a promising start to the season. We’ve been quite consistent in terms of performance. Tottenham’s Postecoglou is off to a Premier League record start.

“We had to put in a lot of effort tonight.” We held it extremely well in the first half. We had to be patient in our search for openings, and I think they [Fulham] were very well organized, especially defensively.”

Spurs manager, however, was critical of his team’s second-half performance after Fulham missed chances to get back into the game.

“I thought our pressing was outstanding all game,” that’s what he stated. “But it was probably the worst 45 minutes we’ve had all year with the ball.”

“We must maintain our discipline in our approach.” In the end, Vic [Guglielmo Vicario] made a couple of outstanding saves to preserve the clean sheet. In that environment, we should have had much greater game control.”

Despite Postecoglou’s displeasure, Spurs have led the Premier League after 12 games for the first time since December 15, 2020 (first after 12 PL games under José Mourinho).

Postecoglou departed Celtic in the summer to take over at Tottenham Hotspur, and he is yet to suffer a league defeat with his new club.

Tottenham’s head coach has given the club fresh life after they were at rock bottom following their eighth-place finish in the league last season, which meant they missed out on European competition for the first time since 2009.

Tottenham’s start to the season is their best since the 1960-61 season, when they won 11 consecutive games on their way to capturing the league title.

When they face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Friday, the north London team has the chance to go five points clear at the top of the Premier League, despite having played one more game than their opponents.
