Eddie Howe delivers an injury update on Alexander Isak ahead of Wolves’ trip.

Eddie Howe has issued an injury update on Newcastle United player Alexander Isak before of Saturday’s match against Wolves.

Isak, who has had a few niggles and knocks this season, fell down holding his leg after only a quarter-hour of Newcastle’s Champions League loss to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.

Isak gestured that he was unable to continue after receiving treatment from the physio, and Callum Wilson was brought on to replace him in the 15th minute.

Isak was also forced to withdraw from Sweden’s team for the previous international break owing to a groin complaint, and he was only fit enough to come off the bench in Newcastle’s most recent top-flight match, a 4-0 triumph over Crystal Palace.

‘Alex is a groin [injury] which we don’t think is significant,’ Magpies boss Howe revealed ahead of Newcastle’s encounter against Wolves at Molineux this weekend.

‘However, it is a recurrence of the groin injury he experienced while playing for Sweden, so we must analyze that.

‘I believe he is having a scan today. We don’t think that will be a problem.’

Meanwhile, Howe has issued an injury update on Jacob Murphy, who will be out for an extended period of time.

Murphy landed awkwardly just a few minutes after coming on against Dortmund in the second half, and he appeared to be in a lot of pain.

‘Jacob’s is very different; it’s a shoulder dislocation,’ Howe noted. ‘We’re not sure what we’re going to do. I believe he’ll see a specialist today. You can play with these injuries, or on the other hand, he needs surgery and will be sidelined for some time.’

The Magpies were struck a double injury blow in Wednesday’s 1-0 Champions League home defeat to Borussia Dortmund, with both Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy forced out either side of half time.

After recovering from a groin injury, Isak was given the green light to return to Newcastle’s starting lineup against his former club Dortmund, but the Swedish striker walked off within the first 15 minutes with a recurrence of the same issue.
