Manchester City have contacted the Norwegian national team following Erling Haaland’s ankle injury recurrence on Thursday.

Haaland was injured during halftime of City’s recent win over Bournemouth, but he recovered in time to play the next game from the start. On international duty, he played the second half of Norway’s friendly against the Faroe Islands before limping out with an ankle injury.

He was able to finish the game, but Norway’s team doctor, Ola Sand, and manager, Stale Solbakken, said it was the same problem he had earlier in November, and that he was a doubt for their match against Scotland on Sunday.

“It was much the same as it was against Bournemouth a week and a half ago,” Sand told TV2. He’s got it before as well. He receives a tiny twist in his ankle, making him susceptible. It aches a lot immediately away, but it goes away shortly. Then we’ll see how he is tomorrow.

“He will now be treated, then there will be peace and rest, and we will see how he is tomorrow morning.” City has already been contacted. Erling has already spoken with both City and [chief doctor] Mario [Pafundi].”

Norwegian media reported that Haaland walked out of the stadium unaided and without any evident strapping or help, but manager Solbakken was questioned after the game if he thought City would be disappointed that Haaland could have injured himself in a meaningless friendly.

He responded by noting that City had never restricted Haaland’s playing time, and that “under no circumstances had we received an enquiry from Pep Guardiola during my time with the national team.” Erling is eager to join the national team.”

If Haaland is hurt, he will become the ninth uncertainty for the match against Liverpool next week, following Rodri’s absence from Spain’s match in Cyprus on Thursday due to an injury. It would leave City with as few as 12 fit outfield players.

Ederson, Nathan Ake, Mateo Kovacic, and Matheus Nunes have all previously withdrew from international action due to injuries, while John Stones, Sergio Gomez, and Kevin De Bruyne are still out.
