Update on Nayef Aguerd’s concussion

A concussion update on Nayef Aguerd has been sent exclusively to Claret and Hugh, and he now appears certain to join Morocco’s team for their World Cup qualification away game against Tanzania next Tuesday evening. As previously reported, the player received a hard blow to the head during the game against Nottingham Forest and has being evaluated for concussion by West Ham medical staff. Given the regulations governing such scenarios, it appears he will be able to participate in the match despite the issue.

Naturally, the Hammers would want him to stay in London ahead of the crucial Premier League meeting against Burnley at Turf Moor next weekend, but the player is eager to join the squad for such a crucial game. And it looks he will be permitted to participate in the match if necessary, as Fifa’s concussion procedure differs from that of the Premier League.

While the Premier League requires a player to be suspended for 12 days, the world body only requires seven, allowing the Irons central defence to travel and participate in the game. Of course, the Moroccan team management may have a different opinion and opt to leave him out of the team due to what THEY perceive is a continuing issue, but that remains to be seen.
