Mohamed Salah was attacked by pitch invaders during Egypt‘s victory.
On international duty, Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah appeared to be targeted by pitch invaders.
The Pharaohs defeated Sierra Leone 2-0 to take another step toward World Cup qualification in 2026. Egypt won thanks to a brace from former Aston Villa forward Trezeguet, who has won both of his opening qualifiers during the current international break.
Sierra Leone concluded the game with nine men after Tyrese Fornah was sent off in the first half and Abdul Jarju Kabia was sent off in the final seconds. The attitude of a couple of supporters in attendance, however, raised the most concerns.
Various members of security at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Stadium in Paynesville, Liberia, were seen tackling a spectator who had entered the pitch near Salah in the 89th minute. However, as the staff was dealing with that scenario, another member of the audience ran onto the field.
The supporter in issue appeared to run towards Salah, but altered course after being confronted by Salah’s Egypt teammate Mohamed Abdelmonem. The game was delayed as a result, but the Pharaohs were still able to win three points despite the unusual circumstances. Mohamed Salah was attacked by pitch invaders during Egypt’s victory.
Apart from dealing with pitch invaders, Salah has had a productive international break. He scored four goals in Egypt’s 6-0 triumph over Djibouti on Thursday before going on to win again against Sierra Leone.
Salah now has 16 goals for club and country this season and will be eager to add to that total when Liverpool face Manchester City in a crucial Premier League match next Saturday.
