Gavi’s ACL injury has been confirmed by Barcelona; he could be sidelined for 8-9 months.

FC Barcelona has officially verified what has been known for some time that midfield prodigy Gavi has ruptured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament in his right knee and will have surgery soon.

The 19-year-old was carried off in the 26th minute of Spain’s UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia Friday night after suffering a knee injury.

Initial testing by the Spanish national team raised concerns about the ACL injury, and further investigations by club personnel today verified the worst worries.

“Test carried out on Monday morning on the first team player Gavi have shown that he has a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus,” the statement from Barcelona read.

“The player will have surgery in the coming days after which a new medical update will be released.”

According to preliminary sources, Gavi’s season is ended, and he will also miss the Euros and the Olympic Games in the summer of 2024.

An exact recovery period will most likely become clear once he has surgery, which is slated to take place in the following days.

However, according to Javi Miguel of AS, the 19-year-old La Masia graduate could be out for eight to nine months, putting his comeback in the early stages of the following season.
