Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is expected to be out until February after ripping a ligament in his ankle, according to the PA news agency.
The 26-year-old was injured during Sunday’s 2-1 home Premier League defeat by Aston Villa’s Matty Cash, and a scan on Tuesday confirmed the extent of the damage.
The Uruguayan international was making his first appearance since recovering from an ACL injury that had sidelined him since February.
It is a further setback for manager Ange Postecoglou, who already has a long list of absentees, with nine first-team players sidelined due to injury or suspension for the Villa defeat.
