Former Manchester United keeper David de Gea has responded to Newcastle United’s interest, with the former United star set to replace the Nick Pope.

Following Nick Pope’s injury, former Manchester United goalie David de Gea is ready to join Newcastle United.

The Magpies’ No. 1 sustained a dislocated shoulder in Saturday’s 1-0 triumph over Erik ten Hag’s side. It has been determined that the 31-year-old will require surgery and will be out of commission for at least four months.

Martin Dubravka came in late in the game to replace Pope, with Loris Karius also on the bench. However, Newcastle is also seriously considering bringing in another goalie, with De Gea on the list.

The Spaniard was released by United in the summer after 12 years at Old Trafford and is now a free agent.

The former Atletico Madrid keeper reportedly preferred a return to Spain in the summer and has recently been linked with a move to the MLS with Inter Miami.

De Gea has also returned to Manchester in recent weeks, fueling rumours of a possible return to the club as his successor, Andre Onana, struggles.

The 33-year-old has been training regularly and is open to a move to Newcastle, according to ESPN.

Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal has also been linked with a move to Tyneside, with the Gunners shot stopper allegedly open to the idea.

This season, he has lost his place in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI to David Raya, and with Euro 2024 coming next summer, he will be desperate to secure first-team play.

When asked about Ramsdale’s future on Monday, Arteta couldn’t rule out a January exit but believes he wants to stay in north London.

‘He’s willing to participate. He, like any other player, wants to play for Arsenal. That’s exactly what he wants to accomplish,’ Arteta explained.

‘As for England, he hasn’t started many games, so perhaps we can assist him improve here so he can play for England. We want to improve, thus we want to supplement what we already have. That is the goal.’
