Moises Caicedo breaks silence as he explains why he picked Chelsea over Liverpool.

Moises Caicedo has opened up on a dramatic summer transfer window that saw him in the middle of a tug of war between Chelsea and Liverpool

The Ecuadorian midfielder eventually selected Chelsea, with Chelsea breaking the British transfer record to sign Caicedo for £115 million after the Reds applied pressure.

The controversy dominated the final days of the transfer market, with Brighton coming out on top with a massive sum, while Liverpool instead signed midfielders Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo.

Caicedo’s wisdom has been called into doubt in the near term, with Liverpool leading the Premier League and Chelsea languishing in 12th place.

The 22-year-old has appeared in 14 of a possible 16 Premier League games, winning only five of them, and his debut against West Ham resulted in a vital penalty conceded in a 3-1 defeat.

Caicedo, on the other hand, stated why he made the call, and that it was more about going where he was needed.

“I was talking with Chelsea for a long time,” he explained to Sky Sports. “It was impossible to say no to Chelsea because they were always there for me.”

“I suffered a lot during the summer because it was difficult to leave Brighton.” They were with me, and Liverpool called me at the last minute, but it was [too] late because I wanted to play for Chelsea. It was difficult to say no to Chelsea.

“Not for the money, because you always have to win at Chelsea.” Every game, always. If you don’t win, you feel the pressure since the fans expect the team to win.

“Sometimes it’s difficult [to win] because the other teams are tough as well. We know we are Chelsea, but we are a new team with young players. Personally, I’ve only been here four months, everything is new for me.

“I think it’s about time. It’s going to take time.”
