There may not be any player on Bayern Munich‘s roster that Thomas Tuchel has tried as hard to suffocate and crush as Leon Goretzka.

Goretzka seemed to have become the target of Tuchel’s wrath from the minute he took control. The criticism of the Germany international persisted from last season, through the summer, and into this season, culminating in Tuchel’s decision to start Konrad Laimer over Goretzka to begin the season.

Goretzka, on the other hand, eventually regained his job and is having a solid season. Having to deal with all of that may have encouraged some players to consider leaving last summer.

Goretzka stated that he had never contemplated making a move.

“No, looking back, it was a very good decision on my part. I was 100% convinced that I could help the team this season. I insisted on that,” Goretzka told ZDF sportstudio (as captured by @iMaSanMa).

Goretzka has had a very solid season, but the specter of the January transfer window still looms. With Tuchel still clamoring for a No. 6 midfielder, Goretzka could find himself on the outside looking-in once more.
