Mikel Arteta describes what Arsenal’s victory over Brighton lacked.
On Sunday, Arsenal defeated visiting Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 thanks to two second-half goals.
The outcome restored Arsenal’s lead in the Premier League rankings, at least until the conclusion of the ongoing Liverpool vs Manchester United match.
While a comeback victory is always welcome, especially in a tight title fight, there are always things that may be done better.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised his players for coming through against a tough Seagulls side, but he pointed to one area on the pitch where his squad might improve.
“Incredible performance,” Arteta said, according to BBC Sport. “A joy to watch from beginning to end.” The manner we achieved it against such a strong team.
“The scoreboard didn’t reflect that even at halftime.” We had every right to win the game.
“In the first half, we had 15 shots, which was a lot.” We had no choice but to keep on. We don’t have that kind of precision in front of goal.”

The second goal for Arsenal came in the 87th minute, when Kai Havertz got in alone on goal and blasted a shot past Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen. After hanging on to a one-goal advantage despite a few scares at their end, Havertz’s score allowed the Gunners to breathe.
Arteta was clearly aware of Brighton’s threat until Havertz confirmed the outcome.
“That’s the Premier League,” he pointed out. “It’s evident in every game.
“We had many situations to put the ball in the net and we didn’t, 1-0 isn’t enough.”
