Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher, and Gary Neville have all shared memories of Christmas parties from their playing careers.

As is customary at this time of year, most teams have a festive party for their stars, yet Newcastle will not be hosting one this year due to their packed fixture calendar and injury list.

Roy Keane was barred from Man United's Christmas party and went out on his own.

On this week’s Stick to Football podcast with Sky Bet, the trio discussed their experiences with Jill Scott and Ian Wright.

Former Manchester United hardman Keane told a humorous story about being denied entry to his team’s celebration.

‘I got kicked out of the Christmas party one year,’ he explained. I must have been injured, and the reserve team was having a night out, and I joined them, and I believe there was some trouble in Manchester.

A few days later, the first team lads were out when Sir Alex Ferguson came in, in front of everyone, and said that if anyone was spotted drinking with me that day, they would be fined.

‘Because the players were afraid of being fined by the manager, I ended up going out by myself – I held my own Christmas party.’

Jamie Carragher also described how his first Christmas party as a young Liverpool player ended prematurely after he was compelled to perform in front of his teammates.

‘I had to sing a song – the young lads or new recruits had to do something,’ he continued.

‘We had a free bar that night, and I ended up singing an Everton song while getting beer thrown at me.

‘I was that awful, they put me in a taxi, and I was in bed by 12 o’clock that night,’ she says.
