Mauricio Pochettino on Conor Gallagher’s future at Chelsea will be a matter for both the player and the club.

Mauricio Pochettino insists that Conor Gallagher’s future at Chelsea would be decided by the player and the club, following additional speculation about the midfielder’s future.

Gallagher, whose contract expires in 2025, has started every game for the Blues this season, prospering in midfield under the Argentine and earning the captain’s armband after Reece James and Ben Chilwell were injured.

Tottenham and West Ham were interested in the player last summer, and speculation over a January deal for the 23-year-old has revived, with Chelsea attempting to comply with Profit and Sustainability criteria.

“I’ve already said it, this situation is between the club and the player, it’s difficult for any coach to talk about it, it’s a decision by the club and the player,” Pochettino said when questioned about Gallagher’s future.

“I’m coaching the team and trying to make the best decision for performance.” So far, he’s doing exceptionally well for the team. He’s playing because he’s earned it.

“The future is determined by the club and the player, and what they decide to do.” In my previous experience at other teams, I have tried to provide the club my best judgement and recommendations.

“I’m a manager who enjoys collaborating with the athletic director and the owners.” It’s all about talking and debating before making the greatest option for the group.

“It’s always, I repeat, from experience in the past, it’s about the club and the player and what they decide to do.”

Chelsea travel to Molineux on Christmas Eve to play Wolves, seeking to build on their Carabao Cup quarter-final triumph over Newcastle on penalties.
