Manchester United custodian Andre Onana has missed Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations opening due to a change in his travel plans.
Onana appeared in United’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Sunday before boarding a private plane to the Ivory Coast, where AFCON is being held. Cameroon’s campaign was set to begin at 5 p.m. on Monday against Guinea at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro.
However, the Manchester Evening News said that Onana’s plane was’stranded roughly 150 miles away in Abidjan’ because the airport in Yamoussoukro was enveloped by fog, preventing planes from landing.
As a result, Sports Vibes reported that Onana attempted to drive to the stadium, which took almost three hours. However, he has not been picked to the starting lineup for the match against Guinea, with Nimes custodian Fabrice Ondoa taking his place.

United negotiated an arrangement with the Cameroonian FA earlier this month, allowing Onana to stay in Manchester until January 14, allowing him to play in the 2-0 FA Cup third round win over Wigan last Monday and against Tottenham on Sunday.
Onana was eager to stay with his club for as long as possible, fearing he would lose his spot as first-choice custodian. Altay Bayindir, who joined Fenerbahce in the summer, is now ready to deputise.
