Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson is considering a loan move for Man City midfielder.

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is keen on a loan move for England midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City.

Phillips, 28, has been linked with a transfer away from Etihad Stadium this month, despite not starting a Premier League game this season.

Hodgson believes Palace may be unable to finance a permanent deal, but a short-term loan might benefit both sides, with Phillips targeting Euro 2024 this summer.

“He’s a good player,” explained Hodgson.

“I would like to believe that if Kalvin Phillips is available and a possibility for the club – once again, there will be financial constraints, and who knows whether the club believes they will be able to afford that – but if you’re talking about the level of player, I don’t believe there will be many managers who would not say ‘yeah, we will be really happy to have him come to the club’.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s a well-known name. Like most other clubs, we just know that Manchester City may sell or loan him.

“If they’re just going to sell him, I doubt we’ll be in the market. If they’re going to loan him out, I’d like to think we could put our hands up and push ourselves ahead.

“What we could then of course provide is the opportunity to play regular Premier League games in the lead-up to what will be a pivotal summer for England and him.

“We might not be the only club in that position, so at the end of the day, a lot will have to happen before we find out where Kalvin Phillips is going to end up if he’s going to go anywhere.”

Palace go to Everton for an FA Cup third-round rematch on Wednesday night, following their draw at Selhurst Park on January 4.

Hodgson announced that Michael Olise is still out and will miss the trip to Merseyside, as well as the following game against Arsenal on Saturday, January 20.
